In November 2016 Solent Heritage Project was made aware by Darren Howells on our sister page Southampton Heritage Project that the flags at the Canadian War Memorial at Bolderwood were looking a bit tatty,So Solent Heritage Project started to look in to replacing the flags ... Then I was approached by Phil Clowes who lives in Canada who promptly organised 2 flags which were donated by the 128 Thorold Flying Dragons Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron in Ontario and posted them across to me.

The larger flag was bought by the project with money which was donated to us for this very reason, I then had a chat with Sarah Stewart who looked in to who I needed to speak to and made me aware of Richard Daponte who works for the Forestry Commission who I spoke to on the phone given us permission to take down the old flags and replace them with the new ones which we were able to do over the Christmas period ..... So I would like to thank everyone who was involved in making this happen and hope this is the first of many projects Solent Heritage can be involved with.

There is a group being set up to take over the running of the memorial along with the forestry commission and we hope we can add our support in any way we can ..... John McAndrew
